Which car accident law firm in NYC is best for serious injury cases? This directory answers with five New York City firms that publish a dedicated car accident practice and explain how they handle claims that go beyond no-fault.
We checked every firm on its own website in October 2026, and each fact below links to the page where the firm states it.
The short version: Greenstein & Pittari, LLP leads this list for its reach across the city. Every firm here explains how it handles the serious injury test, and together they cover Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx and Queens.
How We Chose and Ranked These Firms
A serious injury car case is not a fender bender. The firm has to prove the injury meets New York’s serious injury test and be ready for a jury, so we looked for firms that say plainly how they do that.
How we ranked them
- A published car accident practice: a New York City car accident page that covers no-fault, serious injuries and what a lawsuit involves.
- Reach across the boroughs: offices, appointment locations or visits that put a lawyer near the injured person.
- Client access: free consultations, contingency fees, direct contact with a lawyer and the languages the firm offers.
The order follows those three tests. All five firms handle car accident claims in New York City, and the right one for you depends on where you live and how your case looks.
The 5 Best NYC Car Accident Law Firms for Serious Injury Cases
Before comparing firms, it helps to know the path a serious injury claim follows in New York. The graphic below shows the four checkpoints that decide whether you can sue the other driver for more than no-fault pays.

A lawyer matters most at the second and third checkpoints. That is where medical records, imaging and crash evidence decide whether the case can move forward.

What Counts as a Serious Injury Case in NYC
New York is a no-fault state. After a crash, your own insurer pays medical bills and lost earnings up to $50,000 per person of basic economic loss, no matter who caused it, under Insurance Law 5102.
To sue the other driver for pain and suffering, you need a serious injury. For lawsuits filed on or after May 26, 2026, that means death, dismemberment, significant disfigurement, a fracture or loss of a fetus.
It also covers a permanent loss of use, or a permanent or significant limitation, of a body organ, member, function or system.
That list is shorter than before. A 2026 amendment removed the old category for injuries that kept someone from daily activities for 90 of the first 180 days, as the state Department of Financial Services explains.
Fault matters too. Under CPLR 1411(b), an injured person in a car case cannot recover if their share of fault is greater than the other side’s.
Most lawsuits must be filed within three years, under CPLR 214. A claim against the City, such as a crash with a city vehicle, needs a notice of claim within 90 days under General Municipal Law 50-e.
This article is general information, not legal advice. Whether your injury qualifies depends on medical evidence and the facts of your crash, so confirm the details with a licensed New York attorney.
How to Choose the Right Car Accident Lawyer
Start with your injury, not the advertising. A fracture or a surgery points to a clear serious injury claim, while soft tissue injuries need careful medical proof. Ask each firm how it would document yours.
Then ask every firm the same questions:
- Will a lawyer, not a case manager, review my medical records and the police report?
- Has the firm taken car accident cases to verdict in my borough?
- What percentage is the contingency fee, and who pays case costs if we lose?
- Can we meet near my home or in the hospital, and in my language?
Treat any promise of a guaranteed settlement amount as a red flag. No lawyer can promise the result before the evidence is in.
